For the 1980 model year the rear fascia was revised with a squared off hatch, wraparound taillights with combined single colored turn signals, and a round gas filler door. To meet emissions requirements General Motors requested and received an EPA waiver of the 1981 and 1982 carbon monoxide standards. The Chevette was still the best selling small car in the United States in 1980. The 1980 car had a revised rear end and rear hatch.
