For 1978 a new four door hatchback used a 97.3 inch wheelbase, two inches longer than the two door, ultimately accounting for more than half of the Chevette's nearly 300,000 sales. Prices were dropped and more standard equipment was added for 1978. The Chevette was built on the T platform co developed by Opel and Isuzu and used round headlights in 1978. The 1978 car added a four door hatchback, which became more than half of the Chevette sales.
