The Cavalier was restyled in 1987 for the 1988 model year, and three trim levels were available for 1988, the VL for Value Leader, the RS and the Z24. The second generation kept the front wheel drive J platform of the first, in sedan, wagon and coupe forms, and the model was produced at Lordstown Assembly, which became synonymous with the Cavalier and compact Chevrolet models in general. The VL, RS and Z24 trims were in the lineup.
