The year 1989 marked the first year of a fuel injected V8 engine in the Caprice, as the 305 cubic inch V8 was updated with throttle body electronic fuel injection, first introduced in 1987 on Chevrolet and GMC pickups and vans. The Pontiac Parisienne station wagon, the last of the Canadian Caprice clones, was available until 1989. The 1986 restyle, with composite headlamps added in 1987, ran in this form until 1990, and the Parisienne station wagon ended in 1989.
