The 1998 Camaro had a facelift with a new front clip, and the LT1 engine was replaced by the new 5.67 liter LS1 V8 introduced a year earlier in the Corvette. It was marketed at 310 horsepower in the Camaro so as not to hurt Corvette sales, though it produced 350, and total production for 1998 was 48,495. The LS1 was rated at 350 horsepower at the flywheel but marketed at 310 in the Camaro, with relocated accessory drive belts, an oil pan tailored to the F body and a cable actuated throttle body instead of the Corvette's drive by wire.
