The first generation Bolt was developed and manufactured with LG. General Motors' Korean arm began developing the Bolt in 2012 with a team of 180 people under the project code G2KCZ, and its initial concept debuted at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. Sales of the 2017 Bolt began in California in December 2016. Its model years run from 2017 to 2023. The first generation Bolt was built at Orion Assembly and sold in Europe as the Opel Ampera e.
