BMW ended production of the Z4 in March 2026, bringing to an end the line of roadsters that began with the Z1 in 1989 and of which the G29 was the fifth model. The G29 Z4 had been introduced in 2018, built by Magna Steyr in Graz, and it marked the end of the Z Series, which had six generations of roadster, coupe, sports car and concept. The Z series roadsters had been built since 1989 in six generations. Z stands for Zukunft, German for future.
