In 2024 BMW announced that the 2025 BMW Z4 M40i would offer the Handschalter package, German for hand shift, which put a six speed manual gearbox into the six cylinder car. The Z4 was in its sixth model year, a soft top roadster built by Magna Steyr at Graz in Austria, and was sold in sDrive30i and M40i models. The Handschalter package gave a six speed manual transmission to the six cylinder M40i, an unusual choice in 2024.
