The E89 Z4 in 2011 was in its third year, sold as the sDrive20i, sDrive28i, sDrive30i and sDrive35i/35is roadsters, the sDrive35is being a special model with extra power. It was built at the Regensburg plant that had been expanded for its production, and was the second generation of the roadster after the E85, the fourth model in the Z Series. The sDrive35is was the most powerful Z4 of the E89 line. The E89 shared the plant with the 3 Series Convertible.
