In April 2009 the X6 M was announced with a 408 kW version of the S63 4.4 liter twin turbo V8, unveiled at the New York Auto Show and on sale in September 2009. The ActiveHybrid X6 made its world premiere at the Frankfurt show in September 2009 and went on sale in the United States in December 2009 at a base price of 89,765 dollars, with a two mode hybrid system. The two models were the first performance and hybrid versions of the X6.
