The base rear wheel drive eDrive35 model, with the same battery and electric motor as the China only i3 eDrive35L, was added in August 2022 to the i4 range, which had been launched with the eDrive40 and the M50 in the previous year. In December 2022 Bloomberg named the i4 as an ideal replacement for Tesla's Model 3 for individuals upset with Elon Musk. The eDrive35 was the entry model of a range that also had the eDrive40 and M50.
