In 2015 the i3 was in its second full year, a four passenger electric hatchback with a rear wheel drive electric powertrain and an optional petrol range extender. As initially sold in the 2014 to 2016 model years, the vehicle's official range was 130 to 160 km. BMW had incorporated lessons from the Mini E and the ActiveE field tests into the battery and one pedal driving design. It sold in Europe, the United States and other markets where electric cars were growing in number.
