The exterior of the i3 was refreshed for the 2018 model year, with a new front bumper, horizontal turn signal openings and standard LED headlights, and the i3s went on sale. Many of the chrome accents added to the regular 2018 model were blacked out on the i3s. In September 2018 BMW announced a larger 42.2 kWh, 120 Ah battery for the i3. The larger battery came after the refresh and was available on the 2019 car.
