Production of the BMW 503 ended in March 1959, after 413 units had been built, 139 of them cabriolets, since May 1956. The 503 and 507 cost about twice their projected price and did not recover their development costs, so that the 503, a two door 2+2 gran turismo manufactured by BMW, was not replaced, and the company turned to smaller cars. The 503 was a rare car. It was built from May 1956 until March 1959.
