The M550d xDrive was a launch model for the M Performance sub brand in 2012 alongside the X5 M50d and X6 M50d at the Geneva International Motor Show, and was produced until 2016. The F10 M5 replaced the E90 M3 as Ring Taxi in April 2012, and BMW Canada's Bullet advertisement promoted the F10 M5 launch. The M5 Competition Package of 2014 was still two years away, and the Refuel advertisement from 2011 had already put the car's fuel economy in the public eye.
