The facelifted E39 was in its first full model year, in the 2001 model year, after its facelift in September 2000. The 5 Series continued as BMW's mid size executive saloon and Touring, and by now the E39 had passed seven years of development and production since the start of series development in 1992. The Alpina B10 V8 post facelift stayed in production until February 2002. Satellite navigation was available on the E39 at the time using CD ROM maps.
