In 2022 the G22 4 Series coupe, G23 convertible and G26 Gran Coupe were in their second full model year, as BMW's compact executive two door range, alongside the i4 electric liftback that shared the Gran Coupe's body. The M4 had been on sale since 2021 as the high performance version, a car that BMW had been making from 2014 onward. It was therefore the year in which the 4 Series family included both combustion and fully electric versions of the liftback.
