The F70 1 Series was officially unveiled on 4 June 2024, with production at the BMW Leipzig Plant commencing in July 2024 and a scheduled market launch in October 2024. It retained the UKL2 platform that also underpins the F74 2 Series Gran Coupe and, like the F40 it succeeded, is a front wheel drive five door hatchback only. The market launch in October 2024 made the car the fourth generation of the line. It was the successor to the F40 of 2019.
