The 2002 Automatic, with the base engine and a ZF 3HP12 three speed automatic transmission, became available in 1969. At the Paris Motor Show in 1969 BMW unveiled a fastback 2002 GT4 concept car. The 2002 of 1969 was available as a base car with 100 PS and as the 2002 ti with 120 PS, and was the car that had given BMW its new reputation for affordable performance. BMW sold the car in Europe and in the United States.
