The Austin Twenty was launched in April 1919, once the First World War was over. Before 1919 Austins had been expensive prestige cars, but Herbert Austin, influenced by the manufacturing philosophy of Henry Ford, decided the future lay in mass producing a single model and chose the 20 horsepower class. Three body types were listed on its introduction: a tourer, a coupe and a landaulette. The Longbridge plant had been enlarged during the war.
