1977 Austin Maxi

Automobiles

In 1977 the Austin name was officially dropped by BL under recommendation by the Ryder Report. The Maxi of 1977 was a medium sized five door hatchback family car, in its ninth year, with the 1750 HL as the top model, built by British Leyland at Cowley, and it had several rivals, including the Volkswagen Passat of 1973 and the Chrysler Alpine of 1975. The Maxi was a hatchback. BL no longer used the Austin name on the car.
