Production of the Austin Maestro began in November 1982, at Oxford, England, for British Leyland, which introduced it under the Austin marque as a small family car with two body styles, a five door hatchback and a two door van. The first of BL's new cars to be launched was the Austin Metro in 1980, and the Maestro followed it as the mid sized car in the new range. It was produced at Oxford, England.
