The 1800 was voted European Car of the Year for 1965. In January 1965 the final drive ratio reverted from the 4.2 to 1 ratio applied at launch to the 3.88 to 1 value used in the prototype, described as a response to oil consumption problems, and in February 1965 water shields were fitted to the rear hubs and the steering rattle cured by a spacer. The 1800 was introduced in Australia in November 1965.
