A cable-drawn transport mode consisting of a series of open chairs, each seating one or more riders, attached at intervals to a continuously circulating cable and carried up a slope, most commonly at a ski resort. Unlike an aerial tramway's large enclosed cabins, a chairlift's chairs are open to the air and spaced along the cable so that many riders can be carried continuously rather than in discrete shuttle trips.
