Renault Traktor GP

Work and Industrial Vehicles

The Renault GP was the first tractor of Renault Agriculture, the former tractor division of the French car maker Renault. It had a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 4,536 cubic centimetres, and about 425 were produced. After the First World War, Renault's Department 14, which was responsible for the FT tank, developed the tractor from that experience, so that it ran on tracks and used an engine similar to the tank's; the main differences from the tank were the front-mounted engine and the lower weight. The tractors were assembled at the Billancourt factory from 11 November 1918 on the lines the tanks had used, and were tested on Louis Renault's farm at Herqueville. The company dates the GP to 1919 as its first tractor, followed by the HI of 1920 and the wheeled HO of 1921.
