The Renault AFV was a French farm tractor of the 1930s and 1940s. It was based on the Renault YL tractor, with the YL's Celtaquatre engine replaced by the 2.4 litre four-cylinder engine of the Vivaquatre. Production began in January 1938 and 429 were built before September 1939; it resumed in October 1940 and ran until December 1943. At the end of 1940 Renault launched the AFVH, a producer-gas variant with a boiler at the front that burned charcoal to make the gas fed to the engine. A narrow-track version was made for vineyards in a few dozen examples, the AFV 85 looked more like a small van and carried a refuse-collection body, and the Air Force ordered ten in October 1939 to serve as airfield tractors.
