The CRH380A is a high-speed electric trainset built by CSR Qingdao Sifang for the Chinese national rail network, introduced in 2010 as part of the rapid buildout of the country's high-speed rail system. Developed from earlier Chinese high-speed rolling stock with a redesigned, more aerodynamic nose and structure intended to sustain very high operating speeds, the CRH380A achieved a widely reported test-run speed of 486 kilometers per hour on the Shanghai-Hangzhou line in 2010, among the fastest recorded runs by a production high-speed trainset design. It entered regular commercial service on some of China's busiest high-speed corridors, including the Beijing-Shanghai line, running at scheduled speeds among the highest of any passenger train in the world.
