The Zefiro is a family of high-speed electric trainsets developed by the Canadian-headquartered manufacturer Bombardier Transportation, first introduced in the early 2010s and built in variants rated for speeds up to 380 kilometers per hour. Bombardier developed the Zefiro platform to compete for high-speed rail contracts in China and Europe, and a Chinese-built variant, marketed domestically as the CRH380D, entered service on Chinese high-speed lines, while a related European variant was jointly developed with Hitachi for operators including Italy's Trenitalia. The Zefiro name, derived from the Italian word for a gentle west wind, was chosen to emphasize the trainset's aerodynamic design, intended to reduce both energy consumption and noise at high speed.
