GWR King Class

Steam and Early Locomotives

The GWR King Class, formally the 6000 Class, was a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives introduced by the Great Western Railway in 1927 and given royal names. Alongside one unique experimental Pacific locomotive, they were the most powerful engines the railway owned, hauling its premier express services out of London toward the West of England and into the Midlands, and remained in front line service until withdrawal in 1962.
