The Farman III is an early French biplane built by the aviation pioneer Henri Farman, first flown in 1909 and widely regarded as one of the most influential aircraft designs of aviation's earliest years because of the aileron control system Farman incorporated into it. Built with a pusher propeller configuration and an open framework construction typical of the period, the Farman III's aileron system, allowing roll control through hinged surfaces rather than twisting the whole wing, was copied and adapted by many other early manufacturers across Europe, making it one of the most commercially successful and frequently licensed aircraft designs of the pre-First World War era. It was used for exhibition flying, early military evaluation and pilot training across several countries.
