ThyssenKrupp is a German industrial engineering and steel group formed by the 1999 merger of Thyssen AG and Krupp, with its operational headquarters in Duisburg and Essen. Its products range from machines and industrial services to high-speed trains, elevators and shipbuilding, and its subsidiary ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems builds frigates, corvettes and submarines for the German and other navies. The group was ranked tenth-largest steel producer worldwide by revenue in 2015 and was divided into some 670 subsidiaries, with the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and Cevian Capital as its largest shareholders. For this atlas it matters as the successor to the Krupp vehicle and locomotive business and as a maker of rail and marine equipment; its steel, elevator and component businesses belong with the company entry in the Business Atlas.
