Imabari Shipbuilding

Imabari Shipbuilding is a major Japanese shipbuilding, marine engineering and service company based in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, Japan. Its roots go back to 1901, and the business was consolidated under the Imabari Shipbuilding name in 1942. The company designs, builds and sells merchant ships and offers offshore engineering services and support across a vessel's operating lifecycle, running multiple shipyards across the Seto Inland Sea region and maintaining subsidiaries in shipping and vessel leasing. As of 2016 Imabari held the fourth largest share of the global shipbuilding market, producing roughly four million tons of cargo carrying capacity a year, a volume that puts it well ahead of its domestic Japanese competitors. The company builds a wide range of commercial vessel types, including bulk carriers, tankers and container ships, for shipowners in Japan and internationally, making it one of the pillars of Japan's maritime manufacturing industry.
