Sunwin is a vehicle division of the Chinese company SAIC Motor that builds buses and trolleybuses, mainly for bus routes in Shanghai, although Sunwin buses have also been built in cities outside Shanghai. It was established on 8 August 2000 as a joint venture between SAIC Motor, through its bus division then called the Shanghai Bus Factory, and Volvo, with a 50 percent stake each, so that China could learn from foreign developments and get a low-floor city bus that the domestic market lacked. Its first products used the Volvo B7R and B7RLE chassis, and it later developed a cheaper SWB6116 bus, with Volvo's permission to use its brand, for cities that could not afford the Volvo-based buses at 800,000 yuan. The low-entry SWB6125 was the first vehicle in China to have an independent air-conditioning system. In 2016 Volvo sold its remaining shares to SAIC, making Sunwin a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC.
