Setra

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Setra is a German bus and coach brand. The name is short for selbsttragend, German for self-supporting, and refers to the integral body and frame of its first coach, the S 8, shown at the Frankfurt motor show in 1951. The maker, Karl Kässbohrer Fahrzeugwerke, was sold to Daimler-Benz in 1995 because of economic difficulties, and since then Setra has been a brand of the Daimler bus unit EvoBus, now Daimler Buses, so it belonged to DaimlerChrysler from 1998 to 2007. Model names such as S 417 give the number of seat rows, and letters such as H, HD and UL mark high-floor, double-deck or interurban builds. Daimler has sold Setra coaches in North America itself again since January 2020.
