Checker Motors Corporation was an American maker from Kalamazoo, Michigan, best known for its taxicabs. It built the Marathon, a sturdy sedan sold from 1961 to 1982 as the standard New York taxi and as a private car. The company also produced body stampings for other makers, and it built cars until 1982 when the car division closed. The firm is chiefly remembered for the Checker taxicab, a roomy, durable car that became a familiar sight on the streets of New York and other American cities.
