Dacia is the Romanian car marque of Automobile Dacia, a company established in 1966 as Uzină de Autoturisme Pitești, whose main factory opened in 1968 at Colibași, now Mioveni, near Pitești. The firm began by building the Renault 8 under licence as the Dacia 1100 and then took the tooling and basic designs of the Renault 12 for its Dacia 1300. The Romanian government sold the company to Groupe Renault in 1999 after 33 years, and from January 2021 it became part of Renault's Dacia-Lada business unit. Dacia is Romania's largest company by revenue and its largest exporter, and in 2024 the brand sold 676,340 passenger and commercial vehicles.
