Sheridan was an American automobile brand built in Muncie, Indiana, in 1920 and 1921, notable as the first brand General Motors started from scratch rather than buying an independent maker. Buick's D. A. Burke proposed designing a car from the ground up and selling it in two ranges, a four-cylinder line between Chevrolet and Oakland and an eight-cylinder V8 line between Buick and Cadillac, with engines from GM's Northway engine-making division. William Durant approved the project and General Motors bought the idle Inter-State Automobile factory in Muncie. The World War I flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker was hired to market the car.
