Reliance was a brass era American automobile made by the Reliance Automobile Manufacturing Company in Detroit, Michigan, from 1904 to 1907. It was a two-cylinder, 3.2 liter, water-cooled car with a selective transmission and shaft drive, designed by E. O. Abbott and W. K. Ackerman, both formerly with Cadillac, and it used a side-entrance tonneau body that the company claimed as a first in the United States. The King of Belgium tonneau of 1905 was priced at 1,250 dollars. The company was under-capitalized and reorganized as the Reliance Motor Car Company, with Fred O. Paige in charge. General Motors purchased it in 1909 and the Reliance truck evolved into the first GMC truck.
