Rapid was the truck brand of the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, founded in 1902 in Pontiac, Michigan, by the Grabowsky brothers Max and Morris, whose earlier venture, the Grabowsky Motor Vehicles Company, had been founded in Detroit in 1900. The firm went on to build one ton trucks, and in 1905 built a new assembly plant at 25 Rapid Street beside the Grand Trunk Western Railroad tracks, which became the nucleus of the Pontiac West Assembly complex. Rapid was billed as the first truck to conquer Pikes Peak in a 1909 road race. General Motors acquired it in 1909 and it became the beginning of the GMC Truck division.
