Overland

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Overland was an American automobile marque built by the Overland Automobile Company, which began in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1903 when Claude E. Cox designed a gasoline runabout for the Standard Wheel Company. Production moved to Indianapolis in 1905 and, after John North Willys took control in 1908, to Toledo, Ohio, in 1909. The company grew into one of the three largest American automobile makers, and in 1912 it was renamed Willys-Overland. The Overland name stayed on cars until 1926, when the line became the Overland Whippet and then the Willys Whippet. Decades later the name returned as an Overland trim package on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
