Acadian was a make of automobile produced by General Motors of Canada from 1962 to 1971. It was introduced so that Canadian Pontiac-Buick dealers would have a compact model to sell, since the Pontiac Tempest was unavailable in Canada. Plans first called for the Acadian to be based on the Chevrolet Corvair, built at General Motors' Oshawa plant, but the concept moved to the Chevy II platform for 1962. The Auto Pact of the 1960s prohibited the sale of certain United States made cars, and General Motors responded with Canadian built makes such as Acadian and Beaumont. The brand was also offered in Chile, with models built in Arica.
