Tesla, Inc. is an American automaker and clean energy company headquartered in Austin, Texas. It was incorporated as Tesla Motors, Inc. on July 1, 2003, by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, and later shortened its name to Tesla. The company designs, manufactures and sells battery electric vehicles, beginning with the low-volume Roadster sports car and expanding into the higher-volume Model S sedan, Model X sport utility vehicle, Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, alongside the Tesla Semi truck and Cybertruck pickup. Model 3 and Model Y are its highest-selling models. Alongside vehicles, Tesla also builds stationary battery energy storage systems and solar energy products.
