Lockheed Corporation

Lockheed Corporation was an American aerospace manufacturer founded in 1926 by brothers Allan and Malcolm Loughead, whose company built some of the most significant aircraft of the twentieth century, including the Constellation airliner, the U-2 and SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft, the C-130 Hercules transport, and the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter developed by its Skunk Works advanced projects division. Headquartered in Burbank, California before relocating to Calabasas, Lockheed built both civilian airliners and military aircraft across its history, along with spacecraft and missile systems for NASA and the United States government. In 1995 Lockheed merged with Martin Marietta to form Lockheed Martin, ending Lockheed's existence as an independent corporation while its aircraft designs and Skunk Works division continued under the merged company.
