GE Transportation

GE Transportation was the rail and transportation equipment division of General Electric, headquartered in Erie, Pennsylvania, and one of the world's largest manufacturers of diesel-electric locomotives. Built on GE's decades of railway electrification and locomotive engineering dating to the early twentieth century, the division supplied freight locomotives, engines, signaling and digital rail solutions to railroads across North America, Africa, Asia and Australia, competing chiefly with EMD (Electro-Motive Diesel). In 2019 GE sold the business, merging it with Wabtec Corporation to form Wabtec's locomotive group, ending GE's century-long direct presence in locomotive manufacturing while its engineering lineage continued under the Wabtec brand.
