Zeppelin-Staaken

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Zeppelin-Staaken, sometimes written Zeppelin Werke Staaken, was a German aircraft manufacturer that Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin and Robert Bosch formed in mid-1914 under the name Versuchsbau G.m.b.H. Gotha-Ost, the Experimental Works Gotha-East or V.G.O. The company rented facilities in Gotha with the aim of building large, long-range bomber aircraft, and Zeppelin hired Alexander Baumann as head designer. In mid-1916 it moved to the village of Staaken, near Berlin, and was renamed Flugzeugwerft G.m.b.H., although it was commonly known as Zeppelin-Staaken. The aircraft its article lists run from the VGO.I, VGO.II and VGO.III through the R-series Riesenflugzeuge, the giant bombers numbered R.IV to R.XVI, and the Type 8301 seaplane to the E-4/20 airliner.
