Cessna Aircraft Company was an American general aviation aircraft manufacturer headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, founded in 1927 by Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos. It built small piston-powered aircraft as well as business jets, and for much of the second half of the twentieth century it was one of the highest-volume and most varied producers of general aviation aircraft in the world. It was bought by General Dynamics in 1985 and by Textron in 1992, and since 2014 Cessna has been one of the brands of Textron Aviation. Its best known aircraft is the Cessna 172, delivered since 1956 and sold in greater numbers than any other aircraft in history.
