Renault UR

The Renault UR is a 6 by 4 chassis made in the early 1930s. Within the French all-terrain vehicle programme of 1930 and 1931 it was presented as a prototype armoured reconnaissance car (URL) and armoured troop carrier, and only six chassis were produced, two of them given armoured bodies. The UR derives from the chassis type MH4 of 1923 and received its factory code in early 1931. It was first shown, as the UR6, as an all-terrain truck with a payload of 4 tonnes, and was adapted to the specifications of the December 1930 programme and ordered in March 1931 by the Ministry of War in six examples: two armoured combatant transport cars type K, two armoured reconnaissance cars type L, one armoured command and liaison car type M and one unarmoured all-terrain transmission car type T. After armour of 8 mm mild steel was fitted they went back to testing in August 1933. Judged unsuitable, they were delivered from early 1936 as driving school vehicles, two chassis went to China in 1936, and the URs stayed in service in Algeria for instruction until at least 1941.
