The Renault FT is a French light tank that was among the most revolutionary and influential tank designs in history. It was the first production tank to have its armament within a fully rotating turret, and its layout, with the crew compartment at the front, the engine compartment at the back and the main armament in a revolving turret, became the standard tank layout. Over 3,000 were manufactured by France, most of them in 1918, and after World War I the tank was exported in large numbers. Copies and derivative designs were made in the United States, Italy and the Soviet Union. It was designed and produced by the Société des Automobiles Renault and was considered obsolete at the outbreak of World War II.
