Renault AIB

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Renault AIB is a military truck of the Second World War, produced from 1940 to 1941. Designed as a tanker truck for the French Army, it was built in series for the Wehrmacht during the Occupation. At the start of the war the services of the Ministry of War realised the need for tanker trucks to carry fuel from the rear, and several orders were placed with different makers from February 1940, including Renault, which said it could produce in series from May 1940 a new 10 tonne six-axle truck with a 9,000 litre tank. Production of the AIB, under the designation AIB1, ordered in 180 examples, was somewhat late, and only one chassis, which had not yet received its tank, was ready on 20 May 1940. Production resumed after the Battle of France, but for the benefit of the Germans, until 1941.
