Ford GTB

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Ford GTB, commonly called the Burma Jeep, was a one and a half ton 4x4 truck that Ford produced during the Second World War and that the United States military used chiefly, especially the Navy and Marine Corps in the Pacific theater, including on the Burma Road. Some stayed in service after the war and saw use in the Korean War, and the last units were retired as late as 1967. Its Ordnance Standard nomenclature number was G-622. Ford built more than 15,000 of these low silhouette, short and maneuverable trucks in five models, all but the GTBS with dual rear wheels: the GTB cargo truck with folding side bench seats, the Navy GTBA painted Ocean Grey, the rare GTBB wrecker of which only 50 were made, and the GTBS and GTBC Navy bomb service trucks with a crane. Chile also operated them, shipped by the United States to protect mining ports.
